We only had two travel days this week. One from Cape May to the C&D Canal, and one to Baltimore. Both were longish days, and we clocked 127 miles total. Our Baltimore visit is pretty much waiting until next week, when we have our ZipWake system upgraded. The boatyard doing the work is in Annapolis, but Annapolis is hosting boat shows for the next two weeks, so docking space is limited. We did get lucky and caught up with some old friends on Inquest who are in the dock next to us!
This week, we finally got some reasonable weather and made some progress south! 287.8 miles in total. We got to visit with some friends from home in Stamford and do some more high-end real estate shopping! We made it through Hell Gate, out of Long Island Sound, and had a bit of a rough ride down the New Jersey coast, finishing our open-water travel for the trip (unless something dramatic comes up).
This week, we traveled 0.9 miles to move the boat from the Mystic Seaport Marina to the Mystic Downtown Marina. We spent most of it hunkered down, watching the weather, and were glad we weren’t stuck out on Block Island! We did a bit of sightseeing at the beginning of the week, but spent most of the last few days on the boat staying dry. We weathered the storm just fine and plan to head back out on Tuesday.
This week we visited Newport, RI again. We had visits from Carol, one of our neighbors from home, Andrew, who designed our boat, and his daughter, and we went to the Newport Boat Show. We did a little house hunting and car shopping while we were there. We had hoped to end the week in Block Island, but the weather for the upcoming week is going to be very windy. We saw predictions of 10+ foot waves at Block Island, so we opted to go back to Mystic Seaport and sit out the winds there rather than being stuck on a small island.

This week, we traveled 183 miles, backtracking our route north. We got a train ride in Portland, ME. Visited with our old next-door neighbors from New Hampshire, in New Castle, and spent Labor Day Weekend with the Witches in Salem, Mass.
After a nice time in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island, we’ve started our trip south. We only did 62 miles this week. We had our first real experience with Maine’s famous Pea Soup Fog. Our stop in Rockland was intended to just break up the distance to Portland. It turns out that there is a lot to see and do here, and we’ve enjoyed our stay and our extra day.
We made it to Bar Harbor! This week has been great, traveling 128 miles. We found a new town to add to our “Top 10”. Castine, Maine, is a great little town with lots of history, and everyone we met was friendly and outgoing. The scenery was beautiful. Bar Harbor is much like we remember it from 45 years ago, when we honeymooned here. Lots of tourists, tourist traps, and great food. The views from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park were still stunning. We’ve had great weather all the way to Bar Harbor. This is the farthest north we will travel this trip, now we turn around and try to beat the snow home.
This week, we continued our cruise up the coast of Maine, port-hopping as we headed north. We started the week in Kennebunkport, stopped in Portland and Boothbay Harbor, and ended in Camden. In all, we cruised 124 miles this week. We’ve had great weather when traveling, rain and hail when in port! We visited Trolls in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and Puffins on Eastern Egg Island!
This week was all about coming home to New Hampshire, the 13th state on our trip. We had a great time visiting with family and friends and exploring what had changed in one of our favorite towns, Portsmouth. We stayed put for the week, so only traveled 25 miles. Brenda took a bit of a tumble when she slipped on a wet dock, our first injury of the trip.
