We move onto the southbound portion of our trip from Kentucky Lakes to Mobile, Alabama. In this We move onto the southbound portion of our trip from Kentucky Lakes to Mobile, Alabama. In this edition of the Blog, we visit Kentucky, and Tennessee, touch Alabama, and then stop in Mississippi. We arrive at Aqua Yacht Harbor in Iuka, MS, for a reunion with our friends Charlie and Robin from our first Loop. We also finally caught back up with our buddy boat, Indigo, at least for a few days. We wait two days in Iuka for our friends on Brand New Day to get repairs, then continue down the Tenn-Tom Waterway to New Site, Mississippi.
After spending a couple of days in Alton, IL, we cruise down the Mississippi River and turn up the Ohio River to the Tennessee River. We anchor out for a couple of nights (rare for us!) and reach Green Turtle Bay, Kentucky, on the Ten-Tom (Tenessee-Tombigbe Waterway), where we are taking a break for a few days. It’s time for another oil change, checking and replacing zincs, and getting overdue haircuts which we took care of care of while at Green Turtle Bay.
In this blog, we finally escape from Lake Michigan and enter the river system with our flotilla to go through the locks. We navigate 300 miles down the Illinois River, reach the Mighty Mississippi, and reward ourselves with a visit to Fast Eddie’s in Alton, Illinois. This is a near-real-time update as we are in Alton as of this posting!
We finish our trip down Lake Michigan, stopping in Sheboygan, Port Washington, and Milwaukee. Then make a mad dash to reach Chicago! Now, we are waiting for our turn to go through the locks. The weather on Lake Michigan has been switching into its Fall crappy mode, with some days having up to 10-foot waves!
In this edition, we start our trip down Lake Michigan. We visit a few towns on the Michigan side of the Lake, then cross to Wisconsin. We visit Sturgeon Bay, Green Bay, and Kewaunee, WI. Our days in port are determined more by the weather on the Lake rather than things to do, so I am able to catch up on the blog! This edition brings us to September, 30th.
We reach the North Channel, visit Sault-Saint-Marie, Ontario, and go for a 225-mile train ride. We return to the USA and visit Mackinac Island, Michigan.
In this edition, we finish the Trent-Severn Waterway, have some engine maintenance done, see some Giant Flower Pots, and the world’s largest Canoe Paddle!
In this blog we pop back and forth between the US and Canada, trying to get a refrigerator. We start the Trent-Severn Waterway, and take a ride in a big bathtub!
In this blog post, we cross into Canada, visit Montreal, and return to the USA in Clayton, NY. On the way we deal with the huge Canadian and American Locks on the St. Lawrence Seaway, and make a visit to Singer Castle on Dark Island!
Read all the details in the Blog!
In this installment, we are delayed by flooding in Vermont. Make the local news as two bodies are found in the river near our boats, and make it almost to the Canadian border!
We visit the CIA (Culinary Institute of America), take a bike ride, a dinghy ride, and a train ride! We stop in Kingston, NY for a few days then New Baltimore, NY, just south of Albany, to prepare the boats for the Champlain Canal portion of our trip.
We finish up our visit to Baltimore and get back underway again. We make the open ocean passage to New York City and past the Statue of Liberty! Then on up the Hudson River.
We spent a few days in Half Moon Bay, taking a bike ride to the Croton Dam, and a road trip to West Point! Then we take a short Cruise north on the Hudson River to Poughkeepsie.
We do a little sightseeing in Baltimore, then leave the boat and drive to New Hampshire to visit friends and family.
